Slank

Formed in Jakarta in 1983, Slank—the group's initial lineup was Kaka (vocals), Pay (guitars), Bongky Marcel (bass), Indra Qadarish (keyboards), and Bimbim (drums) -- would play their trade for a number of years before finally landing a deal and releasing their first album, Suit suit...hehehe, in 1990. From there, more albums, most of them commercially successful, followed, but Slank was plagued by a number of defections, some involving personal issues, others having to do with internal tensions based around creative decisions. The negativity was overcome, and over the next 20 years, Slank was able to increase their profile, touring the world and maintaining a high commercial value. In 2007, Slank released album number 20, Slow But Sure, Suit suit...hehehe (1991) was an enormous hit. Their subsequent success inspired the formation of other bands, such as Dewa.
Their first three albums, awarded by BASF Indonesia as The Best Selling Albums on BASF tapes and the fourth album Generasi Biru went multi-platinum, with several songs making in into Indonesia's top charts.
Slank became the first MTV Indonesia icon in 2005.

PADI was originally one of the campus bands in Airlangga University (Unair), Surabaya. The band consists of Andi Fadly Arifuddin (Fadly, vocalist), Satriyo Yudhi Wahono (Piyu, guitarist), Ari Tri Sosianto (Ari, guitarist), Rindra Risyanto Noor (Rindra, bassist), and Surendro Prasetyo (Yoyok, drummer).
Padi They were called SODA before eventually dubbed as PADI. The band first performed at a gig at Unair’s Faculty of Law, October 1996, and formally known as PADI in April 8, 1997. Yoyok, the drummer, proposed the name PADI, Indonesian for “rice”. It was not only inspired by the philosophy of rice, which bows even further down when ripen, a symbol for modesty. But also by the fact that it is Indonesian staple food that everybody could enjoy. From peasants, little kids, to the executives. Though PADI’s name is often associated with something “boorish”, being the food for the poor, PADI has a very down-to-earth sense. In their perspective, PADI is also the symbol for prosperity.
Before they become what they are today, they used to struggled just to signed a record deal with major recording company. But unfortunately most of them rejected PADI. But that didn't stop Padi to keep on tryin', on the other side the rejection made them recorded lots of demos and they delivered the demo by them self from Surabaya to Jakarta.
On one occasion, Piyu the lead guitar once said "Band player have to feel suffer before they became famous. Living in suffer trained us to survive and exist in our own world".

Metallica

Metallica /məˈtælɨkə/ is an American heavy metal band from Los Angeles, California, formed in 1981. Founded when drummer Lars Ulrich posted an advertisement in a local newspaper, Metallica's line-up has primarily consisted of Ulrich, rhythm guitarist and vocalist James Hetfield and lead guitarist Kirk Hammett, while going through a number of bassists. Currently, the spot is held by Robert Trujillo.
Metallica's early releases included fast tempos, instrumentals, and aggressive musicianship that placed them as one of the "big four" of the thrash metal subgenre alongside Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax during the genre's development into a popular style. The band earned a growing fan base in the underground music community and critical acclaim, with the 1986 release Master of Puppets described as one of the most influential and "heavy" thrash metal albums. The band achieved substantial commercial success with Metallica (1991), which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. With this release the band expanded its musical direction resulting in an album that appealed to a more mainstream audience.
In 2000, Metallica was among several artists who filed a lawsuit against Napster for sharing the band's copyright-protected material for free without the band members' consent. A settlement was reached, and Napster became a pay-to-use service. Despite reaching number one on the Billboard 200, the release of St. Anger alienated many fans with the exclusion of guitar solos and the "steel-sounding" snare drum. A film titled Some Kind of Monster documented the recording process of St. Anger.
Metallica has released nine studio albums, two live albums, two EPs, twenty-four music videos, and forty-five singles. The band has won nine Grammy Awards, and has had five consecutive albums debut at number one on the Billboard 200, making Metallica the only band, other than the Dave Matthews Band, to do so. The band's 1991 album, Metallica, has sold over 15 million copies in the United States, and 22 million copies worldwide, which makes it the 25th-highest-selling album in the country. The band has sold an estimated 100 million records worldwide as of the release of their latest album, Death Magnetic. As of September 2008, Metallica is the fourth highest-selling music artist since the SoundScan era began tracking sales on May 25, 1991, selling a total of 51,136,000 albums in the United States alone.
